Its chain of transmission is authentic. Al-Hafiz mentioned in al-Fath (11/457) that al-Nasa’i authenticated it in Kitab al-Iman wa-l-Nudhur (The Book of Faith and Vows), and he endorsed this. However, I did not find the aforementioned authentication there; perhaps it is found in al-Nasa’i’s al-Sunan al-Kubra.
Ahmad (2/69) and al-Bayhaqi (10/29) narrated it from Abu Muhammad al-Kindi, who said: “A man came to Ibn ‘Umar and said, ‘May I swear by the Ka‘bah?’ He replied, ‘No. Rather, swear by the Lord of the Ka‘bah. For ‘Umar used to swear by his father, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Do not swear by your father; whoever swears by other than Allah has committed shirk.”’”
Al-Bayhaqi also narrated, through a chain whose narrators are trustworthy, that ‘Umar wanted to strike Ibn al-Zubayr for swearing by the Ka‘bah, saying to him, “Do you swear by the Ka‘bah?!”
1167 — “The person among the people of Paradise who suffered the greatest affliction in this world will be brought forth, and He will say, ‘Dip him once in Paradise.’ So they will dip him in it once. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will say: ‘O son of Adam, have you ever seen any misery, or experienced anything you disliked?’ He will reply: ‘No, by Your might, I have never seen anything I disliked.’
“Then the person among the people of Hell who enjoyed the greatest luxury in this world will be brought forth, and He will say, ‘Dip him once therein.’ Then He will say: ‘O son of Adam, have you ever seen any good or experienced any delight?’ He will reply: ‘No, by Your might, I have never seen any good or experienced any delight.’”
Ahmad (3/253) narrated it: ‘Affan narrated to us; Hammad narrated to us; Thabit informed us from Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it,’ and he then cited it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to Muslim’s condition. Muslim also narrated it in his Sahih (8/135), as did Ahmad (3/203), from Yazid ibn Harun, who said: Hammad ibn Salamah informed us, with similar wording. It contains, in both places, the words: “No, by Allah, my Lord.”
