so the chain of transmission is interrupted.”
I say: Saʿid ibn Abi Hilal suffered a deterioration in his memory, and the hadith from ʿAʾishah with another wording was cited earlier, before this hadith.
It has a second supporting narration from Abu Umamah al-Bahili, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Days and nights will not come to an end before a group of my ummah drinks wine, calling it by another name.”
Ibn Majah (3384) and Abu Nuʿaym in al-Hilyah (6/97) recorded it through ʿAbd al-Salam ibn ʿAbd al-Quddus: Thawr ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Khalid ibn Maʿdan, from him.
Abu Nuʿaym said:
“This is how he narrated it to us, from Abu Umamah. It was also narrated from Thawr, from Khalid, from Abu Hurayrah—may Allah Most High be pleased with him—with the same wording.”
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, except for this ʿAbd al-Salam, who is weak, as stated in al-Taqrib.
It has a third supporting narration, transmitted by Abu ʿAmir al-Khazzaz from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from Ibn ʿAbbas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“My ummah will drink wine at the end of time, calling it by another name.”
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabir (3/114/3). Abu ʿAmir’s name was Salih ibn Rustum al-Muzani. He was truthful but prone to many errors, as stated in al-Taqrib; therefore, a narration from someone like him may be used as a supporting report.
And Allah knows best.
It has a fourth supporting narration, transmitted by Hatim ibn Hurayth from Malik ibn Abi Maryam, who said:
ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm came to us, and we discussed ṭilāʾ. He said: Abu Malik al-Ashʿari told me that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
“Some people from my ummah will surely drink wine, calling it by another name.”
