I say: Al-Dhahabi said: “Truthful, though he has some weakness.” Al-Hafiz said: “Truthful, but he makes mistakes.”
I say: Thus, his hadith is good, Allah willing, so long as it is not contradicted. It has also been corroborated: al-Bayhaqi and al-Khatib, in al-Tarikh (7/432), narrated it by way of Ibrahim ibn ʿUyaynah, who said: I heard Ibn Hibban mention, from Abu Zurʿah ibn ʿAmr ibn Jarir, from Abu Hurayrah, attributing it to the Prophet: “Sheep are among the animals of Paradise, so wipe away their nasal discharge and pray in their folds.”
I say: This chain of transmission is also good. Concerning Ibrahim ibn ʿUyaynah, al-Hafiz said: “Truthful, but he is prone to error.”
It has a third route, with the wording: “Wipe away their nasal discharge—that is, that of the sheep—and pray in their enclosure, for they are among the animals of Paradise.” Al-Bazzar (49) narrated it by way of ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar ibn Nujayh: Muhammad ibn ʿAmr ibn Halhalah narrated to us from Wahb ibn Kaysan, from Humayd ibn Malik, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about praying in sheepfolds. He said …” He then cited it. Al-Bazzar said: “We know of no report that Humayd transmitted directly from Abu Hurayrah except this one.” Al-Haythami said: “ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar is weak.”
I say: He was the father of ʿAli ibn al-Madini, al-Hafiz. It also has a fourth route, with an addition at its beginning; I included it for that reason in the other book (2070). Then I found a corroborating report narrated by Abu Hayyan, who said:
