3 — As for the hadith of Anas, its wording is: “I fear for my community after me denial of the divine decree and belief in the stars.” Abu Yaʿla narrated it in his Musnad (1023), and Ibn ʿAdi (196/1), through Shihab ibn Khirash, from Yazid al-Raqashi, who narrated to us from Anas, attributing it to the Prophet. He said: “Some of Shihab’s narrations contain matters that are objectionable, but I know of no statement by the early authorities concerning him that I might cite.”
I say: Al-Dhahabi said: “Truthful and well-known; some of his reports are deemed objectionable … yet they declared him trustworthy.” His teacher, Yazid al-Raqashi, is weak.
4 — As for the hadith of Jabir, its wording is: “Three things I fear for my community: seeking rain by the stars, the injustice of the ruler, and denial of the divine decree.” Ahmad (5/90), his son, Ibn Abi ʿAsim in al-Sunnah (324), and al-Tabarani (1/92/1) narrated it through Muhammad ibn al-Qasim al-Asadi, who said: Fitr narrated to us from Abu Khalid al-Walibi, from him. Through this same route, Abu Yaʿla narrated it in his Musnad (p. 1802), as did al-Tabarani in al-Saghir (182) and others. Al-Haythami said: “It includes Muhammad ibn al-Qasim al-Asadi. Ibn Maʿin declared him trustworthy, while Ahmad declared him a liar, and the rest of the scholars deemed him weak.”
I say: He is extremely weak, so his hadith cannot be used as corroborating evidence; the preceding reports are sufficient.
1128 — “Pray in sheepfolds and wipe their nasal discharge, for they are among the animals of Paradise.”
Ibn ʿAdi (276/1) narrated it, and al-Bayhaqi (2/449) narrated it from him, through Kathir ibn Zayd, from al-Walid ibn Rabah, from Abu Hurayrah, attributing it to the Prophet. He said: “I have found nothing objectionable in Kathir’s hadiths, and I hope that there is nothing wrong with him.”
