through this route (6/165), but he did not give its wording; rather, he referred to the version transmitted by Umar ibn Nafi', from his father, with the wording: “He forbade shaving part of the head while leaving the rest unshaven.”
1124 — “Speculative discussion of divine decree will be left to the worst of my Ummah in the last days.”
Ibn al-A'rabi narrated it in al-Mu'jam (3/1, 37/2), as did al-Dulabi (2/38), al-Bazzar in his Musnad (p. 230, its supplementary material), Ibn Abi 'Asim in al-Sunnah (350), al-Hakim (2/473), and al-Jurjani in al-Fawa'id (160/2), through 'Anbasah al-Haddad, from Ibn Shihab, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah, as a Prophetic report. Through this same route, it was also narrated by Ibn Bishran in al-Amali (74/1), al-Silafi in al-Tuyuriyyat (246/2), and al-'Uqayli in al-Du'afa' (331). Al-'Uqayli said: “'Anbasah ibn 'Amr makes mistakes in his hadith.”
Al-Bazzar said: “We know of no one who narrated it from al-Zuhri other than 'Anbasah, and he is weak in hadith.” Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to al-Bukhari’s conditions.” Al-Dhahabi rebutted him, saying: “'Anbasah is trustworthy, but neither of them narrated from him.” Both of them were mistaken in this, for no one declared this 'Anbasah trustworthy.
Al-'Uqayli and al-Lalaka'i also narrated it in al-Sunnah (1/142/2) through al-Aghlab ibn Tamim, from Mani' Abu Khalid, from al-Zuhri, from a man among the Ansar, as a Prophetic report with the same wording. Al-'Uqayli said: “This is more sound.” Al-Dhahabi said likewise in his entry on 'Anbasah ibn Mihran, and cited Abu Hatim’s statement that he was rejected in hadith.
Al-Bazzar and al-'Uqayli, in al-Du'afa' (277), also narrated it through Nu'aym ibn Hammad: Umar ibn Abi Khalifah narrated to us from Hisham, from Muhammad, from Abu Hurayrah, with the same wording. He said: “This Umar’s hadith is rejected.” He also cited Musa ibn Harun as saying: “This hadith is rejected.” Al-Bazzar, however, said: “Its chain is good.” This is closer to what is correct, for Abu Hatim said of this Umar: “Acceptable in hadith,” while 'Amr ibn 'Ali said: “He is among the trustworthy narrators.”
