“Whoever supports two girls until they reach maturity will enter Paradise, he and I being like these two”—and he gestured with his index and middle fingers—“and two doors....” He said: “The chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him, and it is as they both said; but they overlooked the fact that it meets Muslim’s criterion. Muslim recorded only this addition through this route in his Sahih, except that he gave the name as “Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Anas,” with the names inverted. Al-Tirmidhi likewise recorded it, as mentioned earlier under no. 297. In another version he has, “Abu Bakr ibn Ubayd Allah,” as in this narration of al-Hakim; then he said after it: “The first is the sound one.”
Note: Al-Manawi attributed the aforementioned addition to al-Bukhari, but I have not found it with him, and I can only regard him as mistaken. As far as I know, no one besides him attributed it to al-Bukhari—not al-Mundhiri in al-Targhib (3/83), nor al-Saghani in al-Mashariq (1/62, with al-Mubariq’s commentary).
Ahmad (5/36), al-Hasan ibn Arafah in his hadith collection (8/1), and Abu Abd Allah ibn Nuzayf al-Farra in his Hadith from Abu al-Fawaris al-Sabuni (folio 81/2) also recorded it through Waki and others, from Muhammad ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Rasibi, from a client of Abu Bakrah, from Abu Bakrah, in a report attributed to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Its narrators are reliable, apart from Abu Bakrah’s client, whom I have not been able to identify. Yet the hadith is authentic, since it is an abridged version of the preceding hadith, transmitted through another route from Abu Bakrah in a report attributed to the Prophet. See no. 918.
Similar is what appears in al-Jami al-Saghir, narrated by al-Bukhari in al-Tarikh and by al-Tabarani in al-Mujam al-Kabir from Abu Bakrah, with the wording: “There are two matters whose punishment Allah hastens in this world: transgression and undutifulness to parents.” I then found it in Akhbar Isfahan (2/99), through al-Tabarani’s chain, from Sad, a client of Abu Bakrah: Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakrah narrated to us from his father, attributing it to the Prophet. I have not found a biographical notice for this Ubayd Allah, though they mentioned him among those who narrated from his father.
