Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

in al-Zuhd (folio 99/1), and Habat Allah al-Tabari in al-Fawa'id al-Sihah (1/132/2), through Muawiyah ibn Salih, who said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr al-Hadrami narrated to me from his father, who said: I heard Amr ibn al-Hamiq al-Khuza'i attribute it to the Prophet. Al-Tabari said: “An authentic hadith according to the criteria of Muslim, who ought to have included it.”

I say: It is as he said. Strangely, al-Hakim transmitted it through this same route (1/340) and merely said: “Authentic.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him. It was also corroborated by Abd Allah ibn Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from his father, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, with similar wording. It was recorded by al-Bukhari in al-Tarikh al-Kabir (4/2/302), al-Tahawi, and al-Khatib in al-Tarikh (11/434). It also has supporting reports:

  1. From Abu Umamah, with similar wording. Al-Quda'i recorded it (110/2) through Ali ibn Yazid, from al-Qasim, from him. This is a weak chain of transmission: Ali ibn Yazid is al-Alhani, and he is weak.

  2. From Abu Utbah al-Khawlani. Al-Quda'i likewise narrated it through Baqiyyah, who said: Muhammad ibn Ziyad informed us from him, attributing it to the Prophet. This chain is unobjectionable, but I have not identified this Abu Utbah, unless he is al-Kindi al-Himsi, who heard from Abu Umamah al-Bahili and from whom Muawiyah ibn Salih narrated, as stated in al-Jarh (4/2/412). In that case, it is mursal.

I then corrected myself and said: Rather, he is Abu Anbah al-Khawlani, with a nun in place of the letter ta with two dots above. Ibn Abi Hatim likewise mentioned him (4/2/418–419) and quoted his father as saying: “He belongs to the first generation of the Successors of the people of al-Sham. Abu al-Zahiriyyah and Muhammad ibn Ziyad al-Alhani narrated from him ...” Al-Dulabi recorded it through this route (2/10), but a textual corruption occurred in its chain of transmission. Ahmad likewise recorded it (4/200), and his shaykh, Surayj ibn al-Numan, explicitly stated that Abu Anbah had companionship with the Prophet. Abu Anbah himself explicitly affirmed that he heard from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in another hadith recorded by Ahmad. And Allah knows best. I then saw it in al-Sunnah by Ibn Abi Asim (no. 400, in my edition), through Baqiyyah, who said: Muhammad ibn Ziyad narrated to us from him.
