this report is connected in both works to the original hadith through two chains from Marwan. This is the sounder view, if Allah Most High wills.
Al-Mundhiri attributed the hadith in al-Targhīb (4/162) solely to Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ. It also has another chain in Ibn Asakir, through Ata ibn Yasar from Abu Hurayrah, with similar wording.
A portion of it is corroborated by a report from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, which reads:
“Has any one of you fed a needy person today?” Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I entered the mosque and found a beggar asking for charity. I saw a piece of bread in Abd al-Rahman’s hand, so I took it from him and gave it to the beggar.”
Abu Dawud and others recorded it. Its chain of transmission is weak, as I explained in al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah (1400).
This demonstrates the virtue of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and the glad tidings given to him of Paradise. There are many excellent hadiths to this effect.
It also demonstrates the virtue of combining these qualities in a single day, and that their being combined in one person gives him glad tidings of Paradise. May Allah make us among its people.
- “Indeed, the first thing to be overturned in Islam, just as a vessel is overturned, is wine.” It was asked: “How can that be, O Messenger of Allah, when Allah has made clear regarding it what He has made clear?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “They will call it by a name other than its own.”
Reported by al-Darimi (2/114): Zayd ibn Yahya narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Rashid narrated to us, from Abu Wahb al-Kilāʿī, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from Aishah, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
