I say: Rather, he is abandoned and accused of lying. But he is not the narrator of this hadith; rather, it is al-Qari, as Ibn Nasr’s aforementioned narration explicitly states.
1108 — “There will never cease to be a group from my ummah fighting for the command of Allah, prevailing over their enemy. Those who oppose them will not harm them, until the Hour comes upon them while they remain upon that.”
Muslim narrated it (6/54) through Abd al-Rahman ibn Shumasah al-Mahri, who said: I was with Maslamah ibn Makhlad, and Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As was with him. Abd Allah said: “The Hour will come only upon the worst of people. They are worse than the people of the Age of Ignorance: whatever they ask Allah for, He turns it back against them.” While they were thus speaking, Uqbah ibn Amir came. Maslamah said to him, “Uqbah, listen to what Abd Allah is saying.” Uqbah replied, “He knows better. But I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say”—and he then mentioned the hadith.

Abu Dawud (2/179), al-Tirmidhi (2/120), and al-Dulabi in al-Kuna wa al-Asma (p. 66) narrated it through Abu Ghifar, who said: Abu Tamimah al-Hujaymi narrated to us, from Abu Jurayy Jabir ibn Sulaym, who said: I saw a man whose opinion the people followed: he said nothing without their following it.
