1103 — “Do you not know that the believer is made to suffer intensely so that it may atone for his sins?”
Ibn Saʿd (2/207) narrated it from Israʾil ibn Yunus, from Ashʿath ibn Abi al-Shaʿthaʾ, from Abu Burdah, from one of the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him—whom he thought to be Aishah—who said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, fell ill with an illness in which his distress or pain became severe. I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, you are showing distress or impatience. Were one of our women to do this, I would be surprised at her.’ He said,” and then mentioned it.
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
1104 — “O Ibn Abis (1), shall I not tell you of the best means by which those seeking refuge seek refuge?” He said, “Yes, Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak,’ and, ‘Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,”’ these two surahs.”
Al-Nasaʾi (2/312), Ibn Saʿd (2/212), and Ahmad (4/153) narrated it from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith, who said: Abu Abd Allah informed me that Ibn Aʾish al-Juhani informed him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him,” and then mentioned it.
I say: This chain of transmission consists of trustworthy narrators used by al-Bukhari and Muslim, apart from this Abu Abd Allah. Al-Dhahabi said: “He is unknown.” Ibn Hibban, however, included him among the reliable narrators. Yet the hadith is authentic, for it has many chains from Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani, as recorded by al-Nasaʾi and others. See Sahih Sunan Abi Dawud (1315 and 1316).
1105 — “On the Day of Resurrection, the molar of the disbeliever will be like Uhud; the breadth of his skin will be seventy cubits; his upper arm will be like al-Bayda; his thigh like Waraqan; and his seat in the Fire will extend the distance between me and al-Rabadhah.”
Al-Hakim (4/595) and Ahmad (2/328) narrated it through Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq,
