Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (1/11/2), as did al-Hakim (3/113), who said: “Authentic according to al-Bukhari’s criteria.” Al-Haythami (9/137) said: “Its chain of transmission is good.” This is what they both said, though it is open to question; there is no need to explain why, since it is acceptable as a corroborating report. Al-Haythami then said: “Abu Ya‘la narrated it, and its chain includes the father of ‘Ali ibn al-Madini, who is weak.”

As for the hadith of ‘Ammar, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated it: Yazid ibn Muhammad Khuthaym al-Muharibi told me, from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b al-Qurazi, from Muhammad ibn Khuthaym Abu Yazid, from ‘Ammar, traced back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with similar wording. Ahmad (4/263) and al-Hakim (3/140–141) recorded it. Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to Muslim’s criteria,” and al-Dhahabi agreed with him! This is one of their errors, for Muslim did not narrate anything from either Muhammad ibn Khuthaym or his son Yazid. Moreover, both are counted among the unknown narrators. Ibn Hibban declared them trustworthy, and Ibn Ma‘in said of Yazid: “There is nothing wrong with him.” As for declaring it defective on account of a discontinuity between Abu Yazid and ‘Ammar, there is no basis for this, contrary to al-Haythami’s statement (9/136): “Ahmad, al-Tabarani, and al-Bazzar narrated it in abbreviated form. All their narrators have been declared trustworthy, except that the Successor did not hear from ‘Ammar.”

As for the hadith of Suhayb, al-Tabarani and Abu Ya‘la narrated it. Its chain includes Rushdayn ibn Sa‘d, who has been declared trustworthy, while the rest of its narrators are reliable, as al-Haythami said (9/136).
1089 — “Allah has left no excuse for a man whose lifespan He has extended until he reaches sixty years of age.”
Al-Bukhari recorded it (11/200, Fath) by way of ‘Amr ibn ‘Ali—who is al-Muqaddami—from Ma‘n ibn Muhammad al-Ghifari, from Sa‘id ibn Abi Sa‘id al-Muqbiri, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said it. He added: “Abu Hazim and Ibn ‘Ajlan followed him in narrating it from al-Muqbiri.” Al-Hakim (2/427–428) and Ahmad (2/275) also recorded it by way of Ma‘mar, from a man of Banu Ghifar, from Sa‘id al-Muqbiri, with the same report; its wording is:
