It was recorded by al-Khatib in Tarikh Baghdad (5/153) and al-Diya' in al-Mukhtarah (fol. 207/1).
I say: The narrators of this chain are all trustworthy and are among the narrators of the two shaykhs, apart from this al-Khusayb. Al-Khatib wrote his biography and cited this hadith from him, but mentioned no criticism or accreditation of him.
- As for the hadith of Jabir, it was narrated by Muttalib ibn Shu'ayb al-Azdi: Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Ramli narrated to us; al-Firyabi narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir, with this wording. It was recorded by Abu Nu'aym in al-Hilyah (3/189): Sulayman ibn Ahmad narrated to us; Muttalib (1) ibn Shu'ayb al-Azdi narrated to us ... He said: “It is a singular hadith among the reports of al-Thawri from Ja'far; al-Ramli alone narrated it from al-Firyabi.”
I say: This al-Ramli was among al-Bukhari's shaykhs, though he was declared weak. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: “Truthful, but prone to error; he was knowledgeable.” Muttalib ibn Shu'ayb al-Azdi is trustworthy, as Ibn Yunus said. Thus, the chain is good, and in conjunction with the preceding reports it is authentic. And Allah knows best.
- As for the hadith of al-Bara', it is narrated by 'Abd al-A'la ibn Abi al-Miswar, from 'Adi ibn Thabit, from him, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “The bearer of the Trumpet has held the Trumpet to his mouth ever since he was created, waiting until he is commanded to blow it; then he will blow it.” It was recorded by al-Khatib in Tarikh Baghdad (11/39).
I say: This 'Abd al-A'la is very weak. Al-Hafiz said: “Abandoned; Ibn Ma'in declared him a liar.”
1080 — “The Trumpet is a horn that is blown.”
It was recorded by Ibn al-Mubarak in al-Zuhd (fol. 118/1—al-Kawakib), and from him
