I say: Several points may be raised against this:
First: Ahmad ibn ‘Ubayd does not occur in Ibn ‘Adi’s narration; rather, he occurs only in al-Bayhaqi’s narration in al-Shu‘ab, as you have seen. Al-Suyuti merely attributed it to that work. Thus, he overlooked the strong corroboration from Hisham ibn ‘Ammar in Ibn ‘Adi.
Second: The Jarrah ibn Malih in this hadith is al-Bahrani al-Himsi, not the one concerning whom al-Daraqutni made the statement quoted by al-Manawi. That was Jarrah ibn Malih al-Ru’asi, the father of Waki‘. Al-Dhahabi said of the former: “He is better than Waki‘’s father.”
Third: There is no inconsistency in al-Dhahabi’s strengthening the chain of transmission of the hadith; rather, that is correct, for there is no narrator in it open to criticism apart from Jarrah. You have already seen Ibn ‘Adi’s assessment of him, which is why al-Hafiz described him in al-Taqrib as “truthful.” For the same reason, he judged its chain strong in al-Fath, as has preceded. Abu Rafi‘ is Nufay‘ ibn Rafi‘ al-Sa’igh al-Madani, a trustworthy narrator whose reports appear in the two Sahih collections. Hisham ibn ‘Ammar has been criticized, even though he was among al-Bukhari’s shaykhs; however, as you have seen, he has been corroborated.

As for the hadith of Anas, al-Hakim narrated it (4/607) from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Sinan ibn Sa‘d, from him. Al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi made no comment on it. Its chain is good: its narrators are trustworthy and appear in the two Sahih collections, except for Sinan ibn Sa‘d—also called Sa‘d ibn Sinan—who is truthful, as stated in al-Taqrib.

As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, it has two routes:
The first is through ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Humayd, from Abu al-Malih, from him. It was narrated by al-Bazzar (18—Zawa’id), al-‘Uqayli in al-Du‘afa’ (268), and Ibn ‘Adi in al-Kamil (236/2). Al-‘Uqayli said: “‘Ubayd Allah: al-Bukhari said, ‘His hadith is rejected.’ This report has another narration through a different route and with different wording, though it too contains some weakness.”
I say: Perhaps he is referring to the first route. Al-Hafiz said concerning this ‘Ubayd Allah: “His hadith is abandoned.”
