I say: This is how it appears in the original: “Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Baṣrī,” contrary to what appears in al-Mashyakhah: “ʿAbd Allah al-Naṣrī,” with a nūn. And Allah knows best.
Abū Nuʿaym likewise narrated it in Akhbār Aṣbahān (1/57) from al-Ṭabarānī. The hadith also has a corroborating report from Abū Hurayrah, to which al-Daylamī alluded. Al-Khaṭīb transmitted it in al-Mūḍiḥ (1/263) through Asad ibn ʿĪsā, known as Rufayn, who narrated to us from Arṭāh ibn al-Mundhir, from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet.
Al-Khaṭīb and ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Maqdisī both narrated it by this route with the wording: “Allah has placed blessing in the pre-dawn meal and in measuring.” It will come under no. 1291.
This is a good chain; all its narrators are trustworthy except for this Asad. Al-Ḥāfiẓ included him in al-Lisān and said: “He was called Rufayn and was one of the worshippers among the people of Syria. Makḥūl al-Bayrūtī reported from Dāwūd ibn Jamīl: They had no doubt that he was among the abdāl. Ibn Ḥibbān said in al-Thiqāt: ‘He narrated uncommon reports; the people of Iraq and of his own land narrated from him.’”
It is further strengthened by another route from Abū Hurayrah, transmitted by Abū Saʿīd ibn al-Aʿrābī in his Muʿjam (138/2), from Ibn Abī Laylā, from ʿAṭāʾ, from him, attributed to the Prophet, but without mention of communal gatherings. This chain is good, at least for supporting narrations and corroborative reports.
It has a second corroborating report, but it is worthless. Ibn Shādhān transmitted it in al-Mashyakhah al-Ṣaghīrah (158/1) from Anas, attributed to the Prophet. Its chain contains al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Zakariyyā al-ʿAdawī, who was a fabricator. Al-Suyūṭī erred by including this report of his in al-Jāmiʿ, even though the authentic hadith with the same meaning sufficiently dispenses with the liar’s report. Its wording is: “Communal gatherings are a blessing ...” It will come in al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah (2673).
It has a third corroborating report, but it is weak. Its chain contains two unknown narrators, as well as al-Ḥārith al-Aʿwar, who is abandoned. I have cited it there together with the aforementioned report of al-ʿAdawī.
1046 — “There are three things: whoever does them has tasted the sweetness of faith: one who worships Allah alone, affirms that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and gives the zakah of his wealth with a willing heart,”
