“Aḥmad recorded it with a good chain of transmission, as did al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Awsaṭ; the latter added: ‘and marries them off.’”
I say: It has another route from Ibn al-Munkadir with the wording: “Whoever has three daughters…” The hadith is similar. Abū Nuʿaym recorded it in al-Ḥilyah (3/14) through ʿĀṣim ibn Hilāl al-Bāriqī, who said: Ayyūb narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from him. Al-Bāriqī has some weakness.
It is corroborated by the hadith of ʿUqbah, attributed to the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him: “Whoever has three daughters and is patient with them, feeds them, gives them drink, and clothes them from his means, they will be a shield for him from the Fire.” Al-Bukhārī recorded it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (pp. 13–14), as did Aḥmad (4/154), from their shaykh Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Muqriʾ, who said: Ḥarmalah ibn ʿImrān narrated to us: Abū ʿAshānah al-Maʿāfirī narrated to me, saying: I heard ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir al-Juhanī say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, say—and he mentioned it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators, except Abū ʿAshānah, who is trustworthy; his name is Ḥayy ibn Yuʾmin al-Miṣrī. He has preceded under no. 293. Al-Ṭabarānī also recorded the hadith in similar wording, adding at its end: “A woman said to him, ‘And two daughters?’ He said, ‘And two daughters.’” Al-Mundhirī cited it (3/84) and deemed it strong, saying: “Its corroborating reports are numerous.”
- “I would not be pleased to possess gold equal to Mount Uhud and for a third night to come upon me while I still had a dinar of it, except for a dinar I had set aside for a debt.”
Muslim recorded it (3/75) from Muḥammad ibn Ziyād, who said: I heard Abū Hurayrah narrate it from the Prophet, may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him. It also has another route from him with the wording: “If I possessed gold like Mount Uhud,” and it will come under no. 1139. It is supported by the hadith of Abū Dharr with the wording: “I would not be pleased to have gold equal to this Mount Uhud, and for a third night to pass over me while I still had a dinar of it—except something set aside for a debt—unless I were to distribute it among the servants of Allah like this, this, and this: to his right, to his left, and behind him.”
