1023 — “There are five deeds which, if a person performs them in a single day, Allah will record him among the people of Paradise: visiting a sick person, attending a funeral, fasting for a day, setting out for the Friday prayer, and emancipating a slave.”
Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it in his Ṣaḥīḥ (713), and also in al-Thiqāt (2/29), from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb, who said: Ḥaywah ibn Shurayḥ informed me that Bishr ibn Abū ʿAmr al-Khawlānī informed him that al-Walīd ibn Qays al-Tujībī informed him that Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī narrated it to him, attributed to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him.
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic; all its narrators are known and trustworthy. Abū Yaʿlā also recorded the hadith, as cited in al-Jāmiʿ, but gave it with the wording: “... whoever fasts on Friday, goes to the Friday prayer, visits a sick person, attends a funeral, and emancipates a slave.” It occurs with this wording in Musnad Abū Yaʿlā (1/292), and its chain is likewise authentic. However, part of its wording is abbreviated, as clarified by another narration which he also recorded through Ibn Wahb: Ibn Lahīʿah informed me, from Yazīd ibn Abū Ḥabīb, from al-Walīd ibn Qays, with the wording: “Whoever’s fast coincides with Friday, visits a sick person ...”—the hadith with similar wording.
This chain is also authentic, for Ibn Lahīʿah’s hadith is authentic when one of the transmitters known as the ʿAbādilah narrates from him; among them is this ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb.
1024 — “Whatever a man gives his wife is charity.”
Aḥmad recorded it (4/179) from Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd al-Madanī, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn Umayyah narrated to us, from his father, attributed to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him. This chain is weak because of the weakness of Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd. This is how it appears in al-Musnad, but he is Muḥammad ibn Abū Ḥumayd. Al-Haythamī (4/119) and al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb: “He is weak.”
