- “Allah is with the debtor until he pays off his debt, provided that it was not incurred for something Allah dislikes.”
It was narrated by al-Darimi (2/263), Ibn Majah (2/75), al-Hakim (2/23), Abu Nu'aym in al-Hilyah (3/204), and Ibn 'Asakir (9/36/1), through the route of Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn Abi Fudayk: Sa'id ibn Sufyan, the client of the Banu Aslam, narrated to us from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Abdullah ibn Ja'far, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said …
All of them, except al-Hakim, added: “He said: Abdullah ibn Ja'far would say to his steward, ‘Go and take out a loan for me, for I dislike spending a night without Allah being with me, after having heard this from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.’” He then cited the hadith.
Al-Hakim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic,” and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. It says in al-Zawa'id: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Mundhiri (3/36) said: “Its chain of transmission is good.” That is what they said! Its narrators are all among those of the Sahih, apart from Sa'id ibn Sufyan. Al-Dhahabi said in al-Mizan: “He is scarcely known; Ibn Hibban regarded him as reliable.”
