I say: This chain is good in the capacity of corroborating reports and follow-up chains. Its narrators are trustworthy, though some of them have been criticised in a manner that does not impair it in that capacity.
- “Among the gravest sins before Allah is that of a man who marries a woman and, once he has fulfilled his desire of her, divorces her and takes away her dowry; a man who employs another and withholds his wages; and another who kills an animal pointlessly.”
Al-Hakim (2/182) narrated it through Ibn Khuzaymah, Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ishaq, the well-known imam: Abd al-Warith ibn Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith al-Anbari narrated to us; my father narrated to me from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Dinar, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Ibn Umar, who attributed it to the Prophet.
Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to al-Bukhari’s criteria,” and al-Dhahabi concurred with him.
I say: It is not as they said, for Abd al-Warith ibn Abd al-Samad is not among al-Bukhari’s narrators; rather, he is among Muslim’s narrators. Moreover, although al-Bukhari narrated from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah, he has been criticised. Al-Dhahabi said in al-Mizan: “He is sound in hadith and has been declared trustworthy.” In al-Taqrib, it says: “Truthful, but makes errors.” Thus, his hadith is good, if Allah Most High wills.
