There is also a report on this subject from Anas, worded: “Allah Most High revealed to Moses ...” It is included in the other book (3901).
- “I am only a treasurer, while Allah is the One who gives. Whoever receives from me a gift given freely, it is blessed for him; but whoever receives from me a gift as a result of greedy asking is like one who eats but is never satisfied.”
Ahmad transmitted it among reports whose chain of transmission will be cited under: “A group from my Ummah will continue...” no. 1971. Muslim also transmitted it (3/95). Both of them narrated it through Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih, who said: Rabi‘ah ibn Yazid al-Dimashqi related to me from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amir al-Yahsubi, who said: I heard Mu‘awiyah say it, attributing it to the Prophet. Ibn Lahi‘ah also narrated it from Ja‘far ibn Rabi‘ah, from Rabi‘ah ibn Yazid, with the same wording. Ahmad also transmitted it (4/100). This is a good chain for corroboration. It has another route with the wording: “I am only a conveyer ...”; it will come, Allah Most High willing, under no. 1628.
Ibn ‘Asakir transmitted it (16/327/1) through Mu‘awiyah ibn Ishaq al-Dimashqi, from Yazid ibn Rabi‘ah, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amir al-Hadrami, with the same wording. He cited it in the biographical entry for this Mu‘awiyah ibn Ishaq, but did not mention any narrator criticism or accreditation concerning him.
