“This is a singular hadith from al-Mughirah. Hashim ibn Hashim alone narrated it from Umar, from him; we have recorded it with a high chain only through Makki’s report.”
I say: Its chain of transmission consists of trustworthy narrators used by the two Shaykhs, apart from this Umar. Al-Dhahabi cited another hadith of his in Al-Mizan, then said: “Al-Uqayli said: ‘He is not corroborated in it. Muhammad ibn Ismail narrated to us: Makki ibn Ibrahim narrated to us.’ I say: He mentioned him with this chain of transmission.” Al-Hafiz said: “The remainder of his statement is: ‘As for the text of the hadith, it has been narrated through good chains of transmission. Ibn Hibban included him among the trustworthy narrators and named his grandfather Muhammad ibn al-Aswad.’”
I say: There is no objection to narrating the like of him as supporting evidence, and this is one such report.
