972 — “Whoever recites the Verse of the Throne after every prayer, nothing but death stands between him and entering Paradise.”
Ibn al-Sunnī recorded it (no. 121), saying: Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn al-Faḍl al-Kalāʿī al-Ḥimṣī narrated to us; al-Yamān ibn Saʿīd and Aḥmad ibn Hārūn, both at al-Maṣīṣah, narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ḥumayr narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ziyād al-Alhānī, from Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn al-Faḍl al-Kalāʿī al-Ḥimṣī has a good biographical entry in Ibn ʿAsākir’s History (15/323/2). As for al-Yamān ibn Saʿīd, I think this is a corruption of “al-Yamān ibn Yazīd.” He is mentioned thus in The Balance: “He narrated from Muhammad ibn Ḥumayd al-Ḥimṣī a lengthy report concerning the punishment of the wicked, which I think is fabricated.” Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in The Tongue: “Our shaykh stated in the supplement that al-Dāraquṭnī said in The Similar and the Dissimilar: ‘Unknown.’ Ibn Mākūlā followed him in this.”
I say: His fellow narrator, Aḥmad ibn Hārūn, was described by al-Dhahabī as follows: “A transmitter of objectionable reports from trustworthy narrators; this was stated by Ibn ʿAdī.” Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: “Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators.” The remaining narrators in the chain are trustworthy and meet al-Bukhārī’s conditions. Yet the hadith is authentic, for it has come through another route, or routes, from Ibn Ḥumayr. Al-Nasāʾī recorded it—as cited in Provision for the Hereafter (1/110), perhaps in his Major Sunan or in his Work of Day and Night—through al-Ḥusayn ibn Bishr, from Muhammad ibn Ḥumayr. This al-Ḥusayn is trustworthy, and he was corroborated by Hārūn ibn Dāwūd al-Najjār al-Ṭarsūsī and Muhammad ibn al-ʿAlāʾ ibn
