It was recorded by Abū ʿUbayd in Gharīb al-Ḥadīth (fol. 37/2). However, this Faraj is weak.
Ḥammād ibn Salamah also differed from them. He said: Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī narrated to us from ʿUbayd ibn Sanūṭā, from Khawlah bint Qays, that the Prophet ﷺ said—and then cited it. Ibn Ḥibbān recorded it (1864) through the route of Muʾammal ibn Ismāʿīl: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us accordingly. However, this Muʾammal is truthful but poor in retention, as stated in al-Taqrīb.
This documentation indicates that the narrators differed over Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd regarding its chain of transmission. The more probable version is that of those who reported it from him, from Yaḥnas, since they are more numerous. Next is the version of those who reported it from him, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār, from Ibn ʿUmar, since he is trustworthy, as mentioned above. This latter version is further strengthened over the preceding one by the corroborating narration of Mūsā ibn ʿUbaydah. Although he is weak, as noted earlier, there is no objection to using him in corroborative transmissions, Allah willing.
Yaḥnas’s kunya was Abū Mūsā. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (4/2/313): “He narrated from ʿUmar, Abū Saʿīd, and Abū Hurayrah. Wahb ibn Kaysān, Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, Ibn al-Hād, and Qaṭan ibn Wahb narrated from him.” He mentioned no criticism or commendation concerning him.
The hadith also has a supporting report from Abū Hurayrah, cited by al-Haythamī in al-Majmaʿ (10/237). He said: “Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Awsaṭ, and its chain of transmission is good.”
