However, its chain of transmission includes Saʿīd ibn Salām al-ʿAṭṭār, who was a liar.
As for the narration of Abū Isḥāq from Masrūq from Abū Bakr, which Abū Nuʿaym mentioned, Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī recorded it with a continuous chain in al-Fawāʾid (1/28), through Hishām ibn ʿAmmār, who said: Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us from Zakariyyā ibn Abī Zāʾidah, from him, in abbreviated form: “Hūd and its sister surahs have made me gray.” Its narrators are trustworthy. Ibn Mardawayh likewise narrated it, adding—as stated in al-Jāmiʿ—“before old age.”
Al-Khaṭīb also recorded it in Tārīkh Baghdād (3/145), through Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording but without the addition.
I say: Its chain of transmission is good.
Abū al-Shaykh recorded it in his Aḥādīth (13/1), through Jubārah, who said: ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd, from his father, who said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, you have grown gray.’ He replied,” and then mentioned it.
I say: ʿAbd al-Karīm is al-Bajalī al-Kūfī, whom al-Ḥāfiẓ graded acceptable. Jubārah is Ibn al-Mughallis al-Hamānī, and he is weak.
956 — “When my community begins to strut arrogantly, and its servants are the sons of kings—the sons of Persia and Rome—its wicked people will be given power over its virtuous people.”
It was recorded by Ibn al-Mubārak in al-Zuhd (no. 187, Nuʿaym’s recension), and by al-Muʿāfā ibn ʿImrān
