with a continuous chain, as mentioned above; whereas Ibn Saʿd narrated it in this manner as a mursal report. This is the version which Abu Hatim said was closer to what is correct. And Allah knows best.
Ibn Saʿd also recorded the hadith from Qatadah, attributed to the Prophet, in abbreviated form: “Surah Hud and its sister surahs have made me gray.” Its chain of transmission is authentic, except that it is mursal. However, al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir from Uqbah ibn Amir, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording. Al-Haythami said (7/37): “Its narrators are those of the Sahih collections.”
He also recorded it from the hadith of Sahl ibn Saʿd, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording, adding: “al-Waqiʿah (The Inevitable Event), al-Haqqah (The Inevitable Reality), and ‘When the Sun Is Wound Round’ [Surah al-Takwir].”
