“It is singular among the hadiths of Thawr; we have recorded it only through Baqiyyah.”
I say: He is trustworthy, and he explicitly stated that he heard it directly; thus, the chain is good.
- As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, Salim al-Khayyat narrates from al-Hasan from him something similar to it.
It was transmitted by al-Tirmidhi (3/285), who said: “It is a singular hadith from Abu Hurayrah.”
I say: Its chain is weak. Al-Hasan is al-Basri; he practised tadlis and narrated it with an ambiguous transmission formula. Salim is Ibn Abd Allah al-Basri, truthful but poor in retention.
- As for the hadith of Ubadah, al-Jami attributes it to Ibn Asakir.
913 — “I entered Paradise and heard recitation therein. I said, ‘Who is this?’ They said, ‘Harithah ibn al-Nu'man.’ Such is filial piety, such is filial piety”—and he was the most dutiful of people toward his mother.
Ibn Wahb transmitted it in al-Jami (22): “I heard Sufyan narrating from Ibn Shihab, from Amrah bint Abd al-Rahman, from Aishah,” as a hadith traced back to the Prophet.
I say: This is an authentic chain according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim. Al-Hakim also transmitted it (3/208) through another route from Sufyan with the same wording, and declared it authentic, as we have mentioned; al-Dhahabi concurred with him. Ibn Wahb then transmitted it (p. 20) through the route of Musa ibn Zayd, from Ibn Shihab, with the same wording, except that he narrated it as mursal, omitting Aishah, and added:
