Al-Tirmidhi said: “A good hadith.” He also records another route for it (2/86), which he deemed defective because of a break in the chain.
871 — “Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for it rises to heaven like sparks.”
Al-Hakim (1/29) narrated it from Abu Kurayb: Husayn ibn ʿAli narrated to us from Zaʾidah, from ʿAsim ibn Kulayb, from Muharib ibn Dithar, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. Al-Hakim said: “Muslim relied upon ʿAsim ibn Kulayb, and the acceptance of all the others as authorities is agreed upon.” Al-Dhahabi concurred with him. In al-ʿUluww (no. 13 in its abridgement), he said: “It is singular, and its chain is good.”
I say: It is therefore authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.
Al-Daylami also narrated it in al-Musnad (1/1/42–43) through Ahmad ibn Ismaʿil ibn al-Harith: ʿAmr ibn Marzuq narrated to us: Zaʾidah informed us from ʿAtaʾ ibn al-Saʾib, from Muharib ibn Dithar, with the same wording. ʿAtaʾ ibn al-Saʾib later suffered impaired memory, though ʿAmr ibn Marzuq was trustworthy but made some errors. As for Ahmad ibn Ismaʿil ibn al-Harith, I have found no biographical entry for him.
872 — “Perform the minor ablution thoroughly. Woe to the heels from the Fire.”
Ibn Majah (1/170) narrated it through al-Walid ibn Muslim: Shaybah ibn al-Ahnaf narrated to us from Abu Salam al-Aswad, from Abu Salih al-Ashʿari, who said: Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Ashʿari told me from Khalid ibn al-Walid, Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan, Shurahbil ibn Hasanah, and ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAs. All of them heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say it.
