and al-Tabarani (1/186/1), through two chains from Saʿd ibn ʿAbd al-Hamid ibn Jaʿfar al-Ansari: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿImran ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Talha ibn ʿUbayd Allah—may Allah be pleased with him—reported to us: Khuzaymah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿUmarah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Thabit narrated to me from his father, from his grandfather, from Khuzaymah ibn Thabit, who attributed it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
I say: This chain of transmission is weak and contains a number of defects:
First: This Muhammad ibn ʿUmarah is among the unknown narrators. Al-Bukhari mentioned him in al-Tarikh, followed by Ibn Abi Hatim (4/1/44), who cited only his son Khuzaymah as narrating from him; neither of them mentioned any criticism or accreditation of him.
Second: His son Khuzaymah was likewise mentioned by al-Bukhari (2/1/190) and Ibn Abi Hatim (1/2/382), who cited only this ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad as narrating from him; neither of them said anything about him.
Third: I have found no biographical entry for ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ʿImran.
In short, the chain is obscure and its narrators are unknown. Nevertheless, the hadith is good, at the very least. Ibn Hibban (2409) narrated its opening portion from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet: “Beware of the supplication of the oppressed.” Its chain is authentic. It was also reported from Anas with an additional wording, and its documentation has preceded under no. 767.
Ibn Hibban (2408), al-Tirmidhi (2/280), Ibn Majah (1752), and Ahmad (2/305, 445) also narrated, through Abu Madallah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “There are three whose supplications are not rejected … and the supplication of the oppressed: Allah raises it above the clouds, opens for it the gates of heaven, and the Lord says: ‘By My might, I shall surely aid you, even if after some time.’”
