Silsilat al-Ahadith al-SahihahNasir al-Din al-Albani

that with His saying: “Yes, by my Lord, you shall certainly be resurrected; then you shall certainly be informed of what you did,” and similar verses.

After citing some of them, al-Tahawi, may Allah Most High have mercy on him, said: “All these matters are reports from Allah concerning condemned people: states of theirs that were blameworthy and statements they made in which they were lying. It was therefore disliked for anyone to adopt the traits of those who are condemned—the disbelievers in their religions and the liars in their speech. Rather, it is more fitting for the people of faith to adopt the traits of the believers who preceded them in faith, and the praiseworthy ways and truthful statements for which Allah Most High praised them. May Allah’s good pleasure and mercy be upon them. In Allah lies success.”

Al-Baghawi said in Sharh al-Sunnah (3/413), in the Maktab edition: “This expression was condemned only because it is generally used concerning a report that has no chain of transmission and no established basis; rather, it is merely something repeated on people’s tongues. Thus, the Prophet ﷺ likened a man’s prefacing his words with the phrase ‘they claim,’ in order to reach his aim, to the riding beast by which a man reaches the destination he intends. The Prophet ﷺ therefore commanded verification regarding what one reports and caution regarding what one narrates: he should not narrate a hadith unless it has been transmitted from a trustworthy narrator. It has been reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: ‘It is sufficient falsehood for a man to relate everything he hears.’ And he ﷺ said: ‘Whoever relates a hadith which he considers to be a lie is one of the liars.’”

867 — “Fear Allah, your Lord; perform your five daily prayers; fast your month; pay the zakah on your wealth; and obey the one in authority over you, and you will enter your Lord’s Paradise.”

It was narrated by al-Tirmidhi (2/516), Ibn Hibban (795), al-Hakim (1/9, 389), and Ahmad (5/251, 262), through the route of Muʿawiyah ibn Salih, who said: Sulaym ibn ʿAmir informed me, saying: I heard Abu Umamah say: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivering a sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and he said: He then mentioned it. This is al-Tirmidhi’s wording, and he said: “A good, authentic hadith.”

The wording of Ahmad and al-Hakim is:
