864 — “Indeed, there is healing in it”—meaning cupping.
Al-Bukhari (10/124), Muslim (7/21), al-Hakim (4/208 and 4/409), and Ahmad (3/335) narrated it through the route of ʿAmr ibn al-Harith: Bukayr narrated to him that ʿAsim ibn ʿUmar ibn Qatadah narrated to him that Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah visited al-Muqannaʿ and said, “I will not leave until you undergo cupping, for I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say…” and he mentioned it. Al-Hakim included it among the reports omitted by the two Shaykhs, but he was mistaken.

Muslim (8/62), Abu Dawud (2/262), al-Tirmidhi (2/112), al-Darimi (1/126–127), Ibn Majah (1/91), and Ahmad (2/397) narrated it from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Tirmidhi said: “This is a good, authentic hadith.”
866 — “How evil a mount for a man is the phrase, ‘They claim.’”
Ibn al-Mubarak narrated it in al-Zuhd (no. 377): al-Awzaʿi informed us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Qilabah, from Abu Masʿud, who said: He was asked, “What did you hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say concerning the phrase, ‘They claim’?” He replied, and mentioned it. It was likewise recorded by al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad (762) and Abu Dawud (4972),
