“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was delivering a sermon when he saw my father sitting in the sun, so he instructed him—or gestured to him—to move into the shade.” He then cited it without the addition.
Ahmad also recorded it (3/426): Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated to us, with the same chain. Al-Ḥākim likewise recorded it through al-Ṭayālisī, with the same chain, except that it includes the addition. In my view, this addition is anomalous, both in its attribution to Shuʿbah and to Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid.
As for the former, this is evident from the fact that al-Ḥākim alone narrated it from al-Ṭayālisī, contrary to the version in his Musnad and to Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar’s narration recorded by Ahmad.
As for the latter, a group narrated it from Ismāʿīl without the words, “for it is blessed.” Among them were Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, Huraym, and Wakīʿ; none of them mentioned this addition, so it is anomalous. Ahmad recorded it from them (3/426–427, 4/262), and Ibn Ḥibbān (1958) recorded it from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd.
834 – “I disliked mentioning Allah except while in a state of ritual purity,” or he said, “in ritual purity.”
Abū Dāwūd recorded it (1/4), as did al-Nasāʾī (1/16), al-Dārimī (2/287), and Ibn Mājah
