“Truthful, though he may err.”
It also has a corroborating report from Anas. Al-Baghawī recorded it in Ḥadīth Muṣʿab al-Zubayrī (49/1), as did Abū Muḥammad al-Makhladī in al-Fawāʾid (290/1), and al-Ḥākim, through al-Darāwardī, from Muṣʿab ibn Thābit, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah, from Anas ibn Mālik, in a report traced back to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
I say: This chain is acceptable as corroborative evidence. Its narrators are trustworthy except for Muṣʿab ibn Thābit al-Asadī al-Zubayrī, who is weak on account of his poor retention. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: “He is weak in hadith, though he was a devout worshipper.”
As for al-Ḥākim’s statement, “Authentic according to Muslim’s criteria,” with which al-Dhahabī concurred, this is an error, because despite the aforementioned weakness of Muṣʿab, Muslim did not record anything from him.

I say: The mursal version was recorded by Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī in his Musnad (1298): Shuʿbah narrated to us from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, who said:
