The fourth: from Abū Janāb, from al-Shaʿbī, from Zayd ibn Yuthayyiʿ, from him, with it. It was recorded by al-Khaṭīb (2/185), as well as al-Ṭabarānī. Abū Janāb’s name was Yaḥyā ibn Abī Ḥayyah; they deemed him weak because of his frequent concealment in transmission.

As for the hadith of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, Aḥmad ibn al-Miqdām narrated it: Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām, Abū Samīr, narrated to us from al-Aʿmash, from Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Tamīmī, from his father, who said: “ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib found a coat of mail belonging to him in the possession of a Jew who had picked it up, and he recognized it … [the story]. Then ʿAlī said: ‘May your mother be bereaved of you! Have you not heard ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb say that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn are the two masters of the youths of Paradise …”’” and so on in the story. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (1/122/2) and Abū Nuʿaym (4/139–140), who said: “It is singular among al-Aʿmash’s narrations from Ibrāhīm; Ḥakīm alone narrated it.” I say: His hadith is abandoned, as Abū Ḥātim stated.

As for the hadith of Ibn Masʿūd, there are two routes from him.
The first: from ʿAlī ibn Ṣāliḥ, from ʿĀṣim, from Zirr, from ʿAbd Allāh, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said—and he mentioned it. It contains the addition: “Their father is better than they are.” It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/167), who said: “It is authentic with this addition.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: Rather, it is good, because of the well-known disagreement concerning ʿĀṣim, who is Ibn Bahdalah.
The second: from ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Baḥr, from Abū Saʿīd al-Kūfī, who said: Manṣūr ibn Abī
