Al-Ḥāfiẓ likewise endorsed him in al-Taqrīb.
The hadith has two corroborating reports. The first is from Anas ibn Mālik, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording. Al-Ṭaḥāwī recorded it through the route of ʿUtbah ibn Ḥumayd, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr narrated to me from him. This is a good chain of transmission. ʿUtbah ibn Ḥumayd was truthful but made some errors, while the rest of its narrators are trustworthy.
The other is from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording, except for the words, “nor the hāmah (a pre-Islamic superstition).” Al-Ṭaḥāwī likewise recorded it through the route of Ibn Abī Laylā, from ʿAṭiyyah, from him. This is a good chain for corroborative purposes. It has other corroborating reports as well; see the forthcoming hadith, with the wording: “If there is ill fortune …,” no. (799).
790 — “Leave it; it is blameworthy.”
It is from the hadith of Anas, who said: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, we used to live in a house where our household was numerous and our wealth abundant. Then we moved to another house, where our household became few and our wealth diminished.” The Messenger of Allah said: “Leave it; it is blameworthy.”
Al-Bukhārī recorded it in al-Adab al-Mufrad (132), and Abū Dāwūd (2/159), through the route of Bishr ibn ʿUmar al-Zuhrānī, from ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār, from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah, from him. Al-Bukhārī said:
