through Layth ibn Abi Sulaym, from Abd al-Malik ibn Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi also narrated it by this route (no. 2690), except that he said, “from Abd al-Malik.” Abu Dawud said: “I think he was Ibn Abi Bashir.” Al-Baghawi also narrated it in Sharh al-Sunnah (3/369, Maktab edition), but did not mention this Abd al-Malik in the chain of transmission.
This is a weak chain of transmission because of Layth, who is Ibn Abi Sulaym; however, he was not alone in narrating it. Al-Diya al-Maqdisi narrated it in al-Mukhtarah (65/65/1) by way of Ibn Hibban, from Jarir ibn Abd al-Hamid, from Abd al-Malik ibn Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, with the same report.
I say: Thus, the hadith is authentic, praise be to Allah. Al-Diya mentioned that Ibn Hibban narrated it in his book—that is, al-Sahih—but I have not seen it in Mawarid al-Zam’an. Allah knows best.
778 — “The people most hated by Allah are three: one who commits sacrilege in the Sacred Precinct; one who seeks to revive a practice of the pre-Islamic era within Islam; and one who seeks a man’s blood without right, in order to shed it.”
Al-Bukhari narrated it in his Sahih (9/6, al-Nahdah edition), as did al-Tabarani in al-Mu‘jam al-Kabir (3/96/1), through Nafi‘ ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
779 — “Seek out the weak, for you are granted provision and victory only through your weak.”
Abu Dawud (1/405, al-Taziyyah edition), al-Nasa’i (2/65), al-Tirmidhi (3/32, al-Tuhfah), Ibn Hibban (1620), al-Hakim (2/106, 145), and Ahmad (5/198) narrated it through Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir, who said: Zayd ibn Artah related to me from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abu al-Darda, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say it.
Al-Tirmidhi said:
