and Ibn Ḥibbān (2335) and al-Ḥākim (1/501–502) also transmitted it through the route of Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, as a narration traced back to the Prophet.
Al-Tirmidhī commented, “A fair and sound ḥadīth.”
Al-Ḥākim said, “Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim,” and al-Dhahabī concurred.
The printed edition of al-Talkhīṣ, however, reads, “according to the criteria of Bukhārī,” which is a scribal error, for only Muslim relied upon Abū al-Zubayr. Moreover, Abū al-Zubayr practiced tadlīs and has related the report with ʿanʿanah; therefore, if it is established that he actually heard it from Jābir, the ḥadīth is sound.
I later discovered corroborating evidence: Ibn Abī Shaybah (12/127/1) recorded—from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr—that he said,
“Whoever says, ‘Subḥāna-llāhi-l-ʿAẓīmi wa bi-ḥamdih (Glorified is Allah the Magnificent, and praise is His),’ a date-palm will be planted for him in Paradise.”
Its transmitters are trustworthy, although there is a break in the chain between ʿAmr and his grandfather ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr. Even though it is stopped at him (mawqūf), it carries the force of being traced back to the Prophet, for such a statement cannot be made on the basis of personal opinion alone.
