Al-Tayalisi also narrated it (p. 767, no. 1208) through another route, saying: Qurrat ibn Khalid narrated to us; Qurrat ibn Musa narrated to us, from Jabir ibn Sulaym, attributing it to the Prophet, with the same wording, though his version contains additional material. This chain too is weak and interrupted. Qurrat ibn Musa is Abu al-Haytham al-Hujaymi. Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy, whereas al-Taqrib states: “Unknown, of the sixth generation”—meaning that it has not been established that he met any of the Companions.
In short, the hadith through these two interrupted routes is weak. It is authentic through other routes, but without the words, “Fear Allah.” It will appear in the place previously indicated.
771 — “Beautify the Quran with your voices, for a beautiful voice adds beauty to the Quran.”
It was narrated by Tammam in al-Fawa’id (159/2) and al-Hakim (1/575), through the route of Sadaqah ibn Abi Imran, from Alqamah ibn Marthad, from Zadhan, from al-Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said this.
I say: Al-Hakim and al-Dhahabi made no comment on it. Its chain of transmission is good according to Muslim’s criteria. There is some criticism concerning Sadaqah, but it is not detrimental; al-Dhahabi, as well as al-Hafiz, described him as “truthful.”
The first part of it has other routes from al-Bara’, which I documented in Sahih Abi Dawud (1320). There I mentioned corroborating reports from the hadiths of Abu Hurayrah and Aishah. Here I add another corroborating report from the hadith of Ibn Masud, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “A beautiful voice is an adornment for the Quran.”
It was narrated by Ibn Sad (6/90) and Ibn Nasr (p. 54), from Said ibn Zurbi, who said: “Hammad narrated to us.”
