This is an authentic chain of transmission. In one version, Aḥmad added: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, recited: ‘No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another.’” Then his son ʿAbd Allah transmitted it through another chain from Abū Rimthah, which includes this addition. Its chain contains Thābit ibn Munqidh, who is not well-known, as stated in al-Taʿjīl.
The hadith was also transmitted by Abū Dāwūd, al-Baghawī, al-Bāwardī, Ibn Qāniʿ, al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr, al-Ḥākim, and al-Bayhaqī in al-Sunan, from Abū Rimthah, as cited in al-Muntakhab (6/126). I say: Abū Dāwūd (2/195) transmitted it only without the second clause.
- “Most of the hypocrites of my Ummah are its Quran reciters.”
It has been reported from the hadiths of ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr, ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbbās, and ʿIṣmah ibn Mālik.
- As for the hadith of Ibn ʿAmr, there are two chains from him:
The first: through Muḥammad ibn Hadiyyah al-Ṣadafī, from him. It was recorded by ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Mubārak in al-Zuhd (451), and through his chain by Aḥmad (2/175); and by Ibn Baṭṭah in al-Ibānah (5/48/2), al-Bukhārī in al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr (1/1/257/822), and al-Firyābī in Ṣifat al-Nifāq (pp. 53–54): ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Shurayḥ al-Maʿāfirī narrated to us: Shurāḥīl ibn Yazīd narrated to me, from him, with it. Some said: Shuraḥbīl ibn Yazīd. But Shurāḥīl is more correct, as al-Bukhārī and Ibn Abī Ḥātim (4/1/115) reported from his father.
