and Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar al-Madāʾinī corroborated him: al-ʿAlāʾ narrated the same report to us. However, he attributed it to Abū Hurayrah as a Companion report. Yet it has the ruling of a report attributed to the Prophet, as is apparent.
It was recorded by Abū Yaʿlā in his Musnad (2/305) and by Ibn Khuzaymah in Ḥadīth ʿAlī ibn Ḥujr (vol. 3, no. 15—my copy), and from him by Ibn ʿAsākir in History of Damascus (2/176/16).
I say: This is an authentic chain according to Muslim’s criteria. Abū Yaʿlā listed many hadiths through this chain, most of which are found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim.

As for the hadith of Abū Saʿīd, ʿAṭiyyah narrates it from him. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/80), al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ (1/191–192), as well as Tammām, al-Bayhaqī, Ibn ʿAsākir, and al-Ḥākim (4/480), as corroborative evidence for the hadith that follows.

As for the hadith of Abū Dharr, Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrates it from al-Aʿmash, from Shaqīq ibn Salamah, from Ḥilām ibn Jadhāl al-Ghifārī, who said: I heard Abū Dharr Jundub ibn Junādah al-Ghifārī say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say—and he then cited it. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/479–480), who said: “Authentic according to Muslim’s criteria.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
I say: Sharīk had poor retention, and Muslim did not cite him as evidence. As for Ḥilām ibn Jadhāl, Jarḥ wa-Taʿdīl (1/2/308) gives it as “Jazl,” with a zāy—and that is perhaps correct—and states: “Abū al-Ṭufayl narrated from him.” It mentions neither criticism nor accreditation regarding him.
I say: The man is unknown, and he is not among Muslim’s narrators.
