- “Do not insult the fever, for it removes the sins of the children of Adam just as the bellows remove the dross from iron.”
Muslim (8/16), al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad (516), and al-Bayhaqi (3/377) recorded it through Abu al-Zubayr, who said: Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered upon Umm al-Sa’ib—or Umm al-Musayyib—and said, “What is the matter with you, Umm al-Sa’ib—or Umm al-Musayyib—that you are shivering?” She replied, “The fever—may Allah grant it no blessing!” He then said: … and mentioned it.
Ibn Majah (2/348) also narrated, through the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, a similar report attributed to the Prophet, but without the incident. Its chain includes Musa ibn ‘Ubaydah, who is weak.
- “The mosque is the home of every God-fearing person.”
Abu Nu‘aym recorded it in al-Hilyah (6/176), and al-Quda‘i in Musnad al-Shihab (1/140/2), through two routes from ‘Abd Allah ibn Mu‘awiyah al-Jumahi, who said: Salih ibn Bashir al-Murri narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu ‘Uthman, who said:
“Salman wrote to Abu al-Darda’: ‘O brother, keep to the mosque and adhere to it, for I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say …’” He then mentioned it. Abu Nu‘aym said: “It is singular among Salih’s hadiths; we have recorded it only through this route.”
I say: Salih is weak.
It has another route, recorded also by al-Quda‘i (8/2—the Moroccan manuscript) and Ibn ‘Asakir (13/378/1), through al-Rabi‘ ibn Tha‘lab, who said: Isma‘il ibn ‘Ayyash informed us, from Mut‘im ibn al-Miqdam and others, from Muhammad ibn Wasi‘, who said:
