It was also corroborated by ‘Uthman ibn Husayn ibn ‘Allan al-Dimashqi, from ‘Urwah, with the same report but without the story. He said, “one day” in place of “this morning.” Al-Nasa’i reported it (2/230), and its chain of transmission is also authentic.
710 — “Rejoice, ‘Ammar: the transgressing party will kill you.”
Al-Tirmidhi reported it (2/310) through al-‘Ala’ ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this. He declared it “a good, authentic hadith.”
I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria. Muslim also reported it in his Sahih (8/185, 186), as did Ahmad (5/306, 306–307), on the authority of Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, who said: Someone better than I—Abu Qatadah—informed me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to ‘Ammar while he was digging the trench, and he was wiping his head, saying: “Woe to Ibn Sumayyah! The transgressing party will kill you...” —the hadith.
Al-Bukhari (1/124, 2/205) and Ahmad (3/5, 22, 28, 91) also reported it through another route from Abu Sa‘id, in the account of the building of the mosque. He said: “The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saw him and began brushing the dust from him, saying: ‘Woe to ‘Ammar! The transgressing party will kill him. He calls them to Paradise, while they call him to the Fire.’” ‘Ammar said: “I seek refuge in Allah from trials.”
The hadith has also been related from a number of other Companions by Muslim and Ahmad (2/161, 164, 206, 4/197, 179, 5/215, 6/289, 300, 311, 315), Ibn Sa‘d in al-Tabaqat (1/2/3, 3/1/177, 180, 181, 185), Abu Nu‘aym in al-Hilyah (4/361, 7/198), and al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak (3/386–387).
