Ibn Abī Ḥātim then related from Abū Zurʿah that he too regarded Ḥakīm’s report as more preponderant.
I say: It is weak, as stated in al-Taqrīb; and Thuwayr is likewise weak. Ibn Abī Ḥātim then said (2/37): “I asked my father about a hadith narrated by al-Muʾammal ibn Ismāʿīl, from Sufyān, from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said it. I heard my father say: ‘This is an error. Rather, it is as Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: I was informed that Ibn ʿAbbās reported it from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.’”
I say: Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ḥarbī also narrated it on the authority of Ibn ʿAmr in al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqāh (3/155/2), through al-Muʾammal, with this chain. The hadith also has a supporting narration from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the abbreviated wording: “A habitual drinker of wine is like an idol worshipper.”
Al-Bukhārī narrated it in al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr (1/1/386), as did Ibn Mājah (3375), Abū Bakr al-Mulaḥḥamī in Majlisayn min al-Amālī (1/2), Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Ābnūsī in al-Fawāʾid (3/2), al-Wāḥidī in al-Wasīṭ (1/255), and al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī in al-Muntaqā min al-Aḥādīth al-Ṣiḥāḥ wa-l-Ḥisān (278/2), through several routes from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Aṣbahānī, from Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah. Al-Ābnūsī said: “Al-Dāraquṭnī said: ‘Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān alone narrated it from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah.’”
I say: In one version, al-Bukhārī narrated it from Sulaymān, from Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from his father, who said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, … and he mentioned it. Al-Bukhārī said: “Abū Hurayrah’s hadith concerning this is not authentic.”
I say: Most of those who narrated from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān transmitted it with a connected chain, and that is more preponderant in my view.
