and al-Ṭayālisī (p. 281, no. 1101), and Aḥmad (3/130/134/249), from Anas, in a report attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The wording in Muslim and al-Nasāʾī reverses the order: “Love for the Anṣār is a sign of faith, and hatred for the Anṣār is a sign of hypocrisy.”
669 — “He would take a tuft from the spoils bestowed by Allah and say: ‘I have no more share in this than any one of you, except for the one-fifth, which is returned to you. So hand over even a thread and a needle, and whatever is more than that. Beware of misappropriating booty, for it will be a disgrace and a shame for its perpetrator on the Day of Resurrection.’”
Aḥmad transmitted it (4/127–128): Abū ʿĀṣim narrated to us; Wahb Abū Khālid narrated to us; he said: Umm Ḥabībah bint al-ʿIrbāḍ narrated to me, from her father, in a report attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. This is a chain of transmission all of whose narrators are trustworthy, apart from this Umm Ḥabībah. Al-Dhahabī said: “Wahb Abū Khālid alone narrated from her.” In al-Taqrīb, she is described as “acceptable.” Al-Haythamī said (5/337): “Aḥmad, al-Bazzār, and al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it. Its chain includes Umm Ḥabībah bint al-ʿIrbāḍ, and I have not found anyone who declared her trustworthy or criticized her; the rest of its narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: Al-Dhahabī also said: “I do not know of any woman narrator who has been accused or whose reports have been abandoned.”
I say: Accordingly, her hadith is good, for it has a supporting report from ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit, with the wording: “He would take a tuft of hair from the side of a camel among the booty and say: ‘I have no more share in it than any one of you. Beware of misappropriating booty, for misappropriating booty will be a disgrace for its perpetrator on the Day of Resurrection. Hand over even a thread and a needle, and whatever is more than that. Fight in the path of Allah, whether near or far, whether settled or travelling, for jihad is one of the gates of Paradise; through it Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, delivers from worry and grief. Establish the limits set by Allah among those near and those far, and do not let the reproach of any reproacher deter you in Allah’s cause.’”
