This chain is acceptable for corroboration. All its narrators are trustworthy narrators of Muslim, except al-Hijrī, whose name was Ibrāhīm ibn Muslim and whose hadith is somewhat weak. Al-Ḥākim also transmitted it through his route (1/555) and said: “Its chain is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī countered: “Ibrāhīm is weak.”
It also has another corroborating report, which al-Ḥākim transmitted (1/566) through ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, with wording similar to the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ. He said: “Its chain is authentic,” and al-Dhahabī concurred.
Ibn al-Mubārak also transmitted it in al-Zuhd (808), attributed to the Companion: “Shurayk informed us, from Abū Isḥāq, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ,” with the same wording. Shurayk had a poor memory.
661 — “Receive glad tidings: your Lord has opened one of the gates of heaven and boasts of you before the angels, saying: ‘Look at My servants: they have completed an obligatory prayer and are awaiting another.’”
Ibn Mājah (801) and Aḥmad (2/186) transmitted it from Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from Thābit, from Abū Ayyūb, from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr, who said: “We performed the Maghrib prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Some departed, while others remained behind. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came hurrying, out of breath, with his knees uncovered, and said...” Then he cited it.
I say: This is an authentic chain according to Muslim’s criteria. Abū Ayyūb was al-Marāghī al-Azdī of Basra. Al-Būṣīrī said in al-Zawāʾid (54/1):
