Al-Quḍāʿī also transmitted it in Musnad al-Shihāb (117/1), from Salām ibn Abī al-Ṣahbāʾ, from Thābit, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
I say: All its narrators are trustworthy except this Salām, concerning whom there is disagreement. At the end of his biographical notice, Ibn ʿAdī said: “I hope that there is no harm in him.” It is related from al-Bukhārī that he said of him: “His hadith is rejected.” Al-Dhahabī said: “Yaḥyā declared him weak, while Aḥmad said: ‘His hadith is good.’ Ibn Ḥibbān said: ‘It is not permissible to use him as evidence when he is alone in reporting.’” He then cited two hadiths of his, this being one of them, and said: “How excellent a hadith it would be, if it were authentic.”
I say: It is at least good by virtue of the corroborating report that follows and others besides it. Abū al-Ḥasan al-Qazwīnī transmitted it in al-Amālī (12/1), from Kathīr ibn Yaḥyā, who said: My father narrated to us, from al-Jurayrī, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd, in a report attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This is a chain acceptable for corroboration. Its narrators are trustworthy except Yaḥyā, the father of Kathīr—namely, Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr Abū al-Naḍr, known as the companion of al-Baṣrī. The hadith master said: “Weak.”
