below the level at which it may be adduced as evidence, especially since the hadith is corroborated by a report from Abū Hurayrah: “The Prophet would not observe qunūt except to supplicate for someone or against someone.” Ibn Khuzaymah also recorded it through Abū Dāwūd: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd and Abū Salamah, from him. This is an authentic chain of transmission according to Muslim’s criteria.
640 — “If any guest stays with a people and, by morning, is deprived of hospitality, he may take the amount due to him as hospitality, and there is no blame upon him.”
Al-Ṭaḥāwī recorded it in Mushkil al-Āthār (4/40), and Aḥmad (2/380), through Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Ṭalḥah, from Abū Hurayrah, who narrated that the Prophet said it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of Muslim, apart from Abū Ṭalḥah, whose name was Nuʿaym ibn Ziyād; he too is trustworthy.
641 — “He would not sleep until he had recited al-Zumar and Banī Isrāʾīl.”
Al-Tirmidhī recorded it (4/232—Tuḥfat), as did Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ (1/126/2), Ibn Naṣr in Qiyām al-Layl (p. 69), al-Ḥākim (2/434), and Aḥmad (6/68/122), through several routes from Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from Abū Lubābah, who said: ʿĀʾishah said it, attributing it to the Prophet.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī made no comment on it, and its narrators are trustworthy. Al-Tirmidhī said:
