Ibn Jurayj also corroborated him, narrating it from Ibrāhīm with the same report. Ibn Abī Shaybah recorded it in al-Muṣannaf (7/2/1). Sufyān here is Ibn ʿUyaynah.
It has also been narrated from him through another connected chain. Ibn Shādhān said in al-Mashyakha al-Ṣughrā (no. 60—my copy): “Abū al-Fawāris Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh—the market inspector of al-Maṣṣīṣah, narrating from memory—related to me: Abū Bishr Ḥayyān ibn Bishr—the judge of al-Maṣṣīṣah—reported to us: Aḥmad ibn Ḥarb al-Ṭāʾī reported to us: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah reported to us: ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, with the same report.”
I say: This is a chain whose narrators, from al-Ṭāʾī onward, are known and trustworthy. As for Ḥayyān ibn Bishr, Abū Ḥātim mentioned him (1/248) in connection with a narration from him by ʿUmar ibn Shabbah al-Numayrī, without mentioning any criticism or accreditation of him. As for Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī Abū al-Fawāris, I have not found a biographical notice for him in the sources available to me. Most likely, it is found in Ibn ʿAsākir’s History, but I shall not pursue the matter at length now.
Ibn ʿUyaynah was not alone in narrating it. Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd narrated it from Sulaymān al-Aḥwal and ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Ṭāwūs, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: “A man came to the Prophet, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, and said: ‘We have an orphan girl. A poor man and a wealthy man have proposed to her. She prefers the poor man, while we prefer the wealthy one.’ So he, Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him, …” Then he mentioned it. Abū ʿAbd Allāh Ibn Mandah recorded it in al-Amālī (folio 46/1) in this manner, and al-Ṭabarānī in
