- “If the one who possesses the Quran rises and recites it by night and day, he will retain it; but if he does not rise with it, he will forget it.”
Ibn Naṣr recorded it in Qiyām al-Layl (p. 73): Yūnus ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā narrated to us: Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ informed me, from Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission; all its narrators are trustworthy and were used by both al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
- “Three are under Allah’s guarantee: a man who goes out to one of Allah’s mosques, a man who goes out to fight in the cause of Allah, and a man who goes out on pilgrimage.”
Al-Ḥumaydī recorded it in his Musnad (1190): Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said it. Through al-Ḥumaydī’s route, Abū Nuʿaym also transmitted it in al-Ḥilyah (9/251), and this was the only source to which al-Suyūṭī attributed it in al-Jāmiʿ! Al-Manāwī left it without comment!
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission meeting the conditions of both al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Abū Nuʿaym also recorded it (3/13–14) through another route, from Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording, except that it says, “the one performing ʿumrah,” in place of, “a man who goes out to the mosque.” Its chain includes al-Ḥakam ibn ʿAbdah al-Baṣrī, who is a narrator of unknown status, as stated in al-Taqrīb.
