And this Mughira is truthful, as al-Hafiz stated. Yet I am uncertain whether this addition is reliably established from him, for I do not presently have the chain of transmission of the hadith through him at hand to review it again. When I copied it from the two sources mentioned, I transcribed only the portion cited above. I fear that this addition may have been interpolated into the hadith, for al-Darimi (2/455) narrated: Affan narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us; Abu al-Zubayr informed us, from Abd Allah ibn Damrah, from Ka'b, who said: “Whoever recites Surah al-Sajdah and Surah al-Mulk will have seventy good deeds recorded for him, seventy evil deeds removed from him on their account, and will be raised seventy degrees on their account.”
I say: This is a good report attributed to a Successor. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators relied upon by Muslim, apart from Abd Allah ibn Damrah. Al-Ijli and Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy, and a number of trustworthy narrators reported from him. Further investigation is needed regarding this addition; perhaps Allah will make that possible for me soon.
- “Say: O disbelievers”—Surah al-Kafirun—“is equivalent to one quarter of the Quran.”
Ibn Adi narrated it in al-Kamil (fol. 55/1), as did al-Hakim (1/566; al-Talkhis), through the route of Ghassan ibn al-Rabi', who said: Ja'far ibn Maysarah al-Ashja'i narrated to us, from his father, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it. Al-Hakim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabi criticized this, saying: “Rather, Ja'far ibn Maysarah’s reports are very objectionable. Abu Hatim said this, and al-Daraqutni declared Ghassan weak.”
