except Sinān ibn Saʿd—or, it is said, Saʿd ibn Sinān—concerning whom there is disagreement: some scholars declared him trustworthy, while others deemed him weak. Details of this can be found in al-Tahdhīb. When Ibn Abī Ḥātim included his biography (2/1/251), he mentioned only Ibn Maʿīn’s declaration that he was trustworthy. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in al-Taqrīb: “Truthful; he has unique narrations.” I say: his hadith is therefore good. Together with the hadith of ʿIyāḍ, it rises to the level of authentic, and Allah knows best.
571 — “Worship the Most Merciful, give food to others, and spread greetings of peace; you will enter Paradise in peace.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (981), al-Tirmidhī (2/340), al-Dārimī (2/109), Ibn Mājah (3694), Ibn Ḥibbān (1360), Aḥmad (2/170 and 196), and Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah (1/287), through several routes from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from his father, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this.
Al-Tirmidhī said: “A good, authentic hadith.”
I say: It is as he said. Its narrators are trustworthy. The only concern regarding ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib is his confusion in later life; but since he did not narrate this hadith alone, we are safe from that concern. This hadith was mentioned shortly before, under no. 569, on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salām, though without its first clause. That clause has no need of corroboration, because of the abundance of Quranic verses and hadiths reported with its wording and meaning. Ibn Mājah records from this hadith only this clause and the clause concerning spreading greetings of peace.
