552 — “The best jihad is that in which one’s horse is hamstrung and one’s blood is shed.”
Ahmad recorded it through two routes from Amr ibn Abasah, attributed to the Prophet, in the course of a hadith whose mention and documentation were given in the preceding entry. This portion of it is therefore good through the combined strength of the two routes.
553 — “The best migration is to forsake what your Lord, Mighty and Majestic, dislikes.”
Ahmad recorded it through two routes from Amr ibn Abasah, attributed to the Prophet, in the course of a hadith whose mention and documentation were given one hadith earlier. This portion of it is likewise good through the combined strength of the two routes.
554 — “Faith is patience and magnanimity.”
Ahmad recorded it from the hadith of Abu Umamah, and Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ibn Abi al-Dunya, and others recorded it through two routes from Jabir, as explained two hadiths earlier.
555 — “I advise you to fear Allah, for it is the chief of all matters. Hold fast to jihad, for it is the monasticism of Islam. Keep to the remembrance of Allah and the recitation of the Quran, for it is your spirit in heaven and your mention on earth.”
Ahmad recorded it (3/82): Husayn narrated to us; Ibn Ayyash—that is, Isma'il—narrated to us from al-Hajjaj ibn Marwan al-Kila'i and Uqayl ibn Mudrik al-Sulami, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that a man came to him and said, “Advise me.” He replied, “You have asked about what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about before you,” and he then cited it.
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, apart from al-Hajjaj ibn Marwan al-Kila'i. Al-Ta'jil states: “He is not well-known.” I say: However, he is paired with Uqayl ibn Mudrik al-Sulami, from whom three trustworthy narrators reported, and whom Ibn Hibban included in al-Thiqat. Yet it may be gathered from his biographical notice there (2/233), and from al-Tahdhib, that he was among the Followers of the Successors. For, after mentioning a number of Successors from whom he narrated, he said regarding him: “And he transmitted mursal reports from Abu Abd Allah al-Sunabuhi.”
